Cold wave conditions intensified on Sunday with mercury dropping to season’s lowest of 1.9 degree Celsius in the national capital, forcing people to stay indoors.
This is the lowest minimum for January in the past five years. In 2008, the minimum had plummeted to 1.9 degree Celsius.
Today’s minimum was five degrees below normal and down from Saturday’s 2.9°C while the maximum was recorded at 11.8°C, nine degrees below normal and down from previous day’s 12.6°C.
Icy winds blew over the capital throughout the day, piling on the agony for the people who were outdoors. Market streets and parks, which usually see more footfalls on Sundays, wore a deserted look.
On Wednesday, the city witnessed the coldest day in 44 years when the maximum plummeted to 9.8°C.
