Delhi shivers at 6.1°C, season’s lowest

Icy winds blowing from the snow-capped mountains in northern states continued to grip the city on Thursday with mercury dipping to the season’s lowest of 6.1°C .

Met officials have predicted a further fall in temperature with mercury likely to touch 6°C on Friday with the maximum temperature hovering around 22°C.

“Snowfall in the upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir has brought down the temperature and cold conditions will continue to prevail in the coming days,” they said.

The weatherman has predicted mist in the morning and mainly clear sky later in the day on Friday.

In 2008, the lowest minimum of the month was 6.4 degree Celsius recorded on December 26 while in 2007, it was 3.9°C on December 29. The record for 2006 was 7.3°C on November 29.

The all-time record for minimum temperature for the month was recorded on December 26 of 1945 when the mercury dipped to 1.1°C.
