In the first step towards becoming ‘friends’, the governments of Delhi and Seoul approved the draft of a “friendship city agreement” on Wednesday, as per a statement from the Delhi government.

A delegation of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, led by Mayor Park Won-Soon, met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. As per the draft agreement, the two cities will cooperate and carry out exchanges in the fields of Smart City, e-governance, transportation, culture, tourism, climate change and environment.

The agreement will have to be cleared by the External Affairs Ministry before it can be officially signed. While their cities may not officially be friends yet, Mr. Kejriwal and Mr. Park ended up realising that they had met earlier. Both were awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2006 and had met in Manila for the ceremony.
