Two cases of rape, one each in East and North-East Delhi, were reported during the past 24 hours.

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in Usmanpur by three of her neighbours on Tuesday evening after being lured on the pretext of providing a job.

According to the police, the victim is a widow who lives with her children and mother in Burari.

In her complaint, the victim purportedly told the police that Shehzad, a 26-year-old man living in the same locality, visited her house and told her about a job opportunity. He asked her to accompany him for a meeting with the prospective employer. She agreed and the two drove towards East Delhi on Shehzad’s motorcycle.

“Shehzad then took her to a forest along the Yamuna Basin in New Usmanpur and soon two others also reached the spot and the three took turns to rape her before leaving the spot,” said a police source.

The victim then made a call to the Police Control Room. Based on her complaint, a case was registered. Shehzad was arrested a few hours later, but the police did not share the details of the other two accused.

In another case reported in Pandav Nagar, a 40-year-old nurse accused her live-in partner of raping her for the past several years on the pretext of marriage.

The victim hails from Kerala and is employed at a clinic in neighbouring Noida. She had started living with the accused soon after the death of her husband eight years ago. She alleged that the accused, who had initially promised to marry her, later refused. Following the victim’s complaint, a case was registered on Wednesday under Sections 376 and 312 of the IPC.
