The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party did a slight shuffle of candidates for the Mundka seat. The party replaced its sitting MLA Manoj Shokeen with Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation Azad Singh. The decision was formally announced on Friday by Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel.
The party had on Tuesday held back from naming any candidate from the Nangloi Assembly constituency, and later decided to field Mr. Shokeen from that seat instead of from Mundka.
Mr. Goel, however, said that the party had not “given into the demands” of Mr. Singh, brother of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, but had decided to “support him”. “We sat down with both the leaders and came to a compromise,” said Mr. Goel, denying any claims of infighting within the party ranks.
Further, the BJP distributed the party symbols to all candidates. Nearly 55 candidates have already filed nominations, said Mr. Goel.
Meanwhile, close to 40 senior party leaders will campaign with the party having locked down dates for BJP national president Rajnath Singh, prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi who will campaign for three days, senior leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley Venkaiah Naidu and several others.
