Delhi police to learn English to help foreigners

June 03, 2016 01:20 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:20 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi police have decided to train several Police Control Room(PCR) personnel to speak fluent English with a foreign accent. The move, it is hoped, will improve their communication skills while dealing with Africans who come to them with their complaints.

These PCR staff, also tasked with receiving calls on the helpline numbers for foreigners, will be trained by some foreigners who will soon be roped in for this purpose. “We will ensure that there are at least two policemen who can converse with the Africans in their accent on the helpline number for foreigners,” R.P. Upadhyaya, Joint CP (South-Eastern Range), told The Hindu .
