Four persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in more than 50 cases of vehicle theft, the police said on Tuesday.

With this arrest, the police claim to have solved 10 cases of auto theft. Wasim (32), Abdul Sajid (31), Gufran (26) and Irfan (27) are all residents of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. The police put up barricades near Mukarba Chowk flyover on Outer Ring Road on August 18 following a tip-off. The accused were asked to stop at the barricade but sped away, a senior officer said.

“They were chased and cornered, and asked to exit the vehicle but they refused to do so. At this, the team broke a window and made them exit the vehicle,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said.

They reportedly disclosed their involvement in over 55 cases of vehicle theft, he said.
