Senior officials of the South Delhi civic body have been ordered to note their observations and comments in Hindi on all files that land on their desks this week.
The Capital’s three municipal corporations started their Hindi Week celebrations on Monday. The North and East municipal corporations have issued an advisory to officials to use Hindi in their work this week. But the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has put out an order to encourage use of the language.
“We have ordered that all senior officials who know the language, including Additional Commissioners, write their file notings in Hindi this week,” said SDMC Commissioner Manish Gupta.
The Commissioner also wrote his own observations on files in Hindi on Monday. Mr. Gupta added that longer documents would still be written in English as translation would be difficult.
Meanwhile, the three corporations started off the week with speeches and recitals on Monday.
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s opening ceremony saw a choir of school teachers perform. North Corporation Mayor Yogender Chandolia encouraged officers to use Hindi in their notings.
The East Delhi Municipal Corporation held the inauguration of the Hindi Week at its headquarters in Patparganj.
EDMC Mayor launched a software programme that changes English alphabets to Hindi. This software will be installed in all computers at the EDMC’s headquarters.
Till Friday, the three civic bodies will hold poetry recitals, essay writing competitions and workshops for officials on Hindi language skills.
