On Thursday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) put in place special security arrangements around stations where protests were scheduled.
Gates closed for 30 mins
Exit gates at the ITO metro station were closed around noon when students gathered outside the police headquarters.
Sagar Kumar, a government employee, said gates were closed for almost 30 minutes. “I saw protesters raising slogans near the ITO subway. A little inconvenience is better than any violence,” said Mr. Kumar.
Similar arrangements were in place at the Vishwavidyalaya and GTB Nagar stations, which are close to North Campus. The ABVP had scheduled protests outside the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) office and the Faculty of Arts.
“We did not want hooligans on the Metro. Extra staff was deployed and exit gates of stations close to the protest sites were closed,” a CISF spokesperson told The Hindu .
