To ensure good cleanliness standards at metro stations and its surroundings, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to improve the cleaning of stations by using advanced and hi-tech machines.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday, the DMRC has introduced a number of new equipment and machines which will keep the entire system clean and hygienic round-the-clock. The DMRC aims at ensuring mechanised cleaning operations by deployment of new machinery. In addition to upgrading existing machinery, new machines including electrically operated scrubber drier, back pack vacuum cleaners have also been provided, the statement added.
Besides this, the DMRC will also ensure “dust-free sweeping and cleaning operations, disposal of waste and garbage in bio-degradable disposal bags in a hygienic manner and use of eco-friendly cleaning chemicals”.
All the team leaders and supervisors of the cleaning teams deputed at stations, maintenance depots are now being trained and certified by the British Institute of Cleaning Sciences in Gurgaon, the statement added.
“At present, the DMRC deploys around 3,500 housekeeping personnel at its 137 stations, working in three shifts of 8 hours each. On an average 20 -25 persons are deployed per station to keep the stations clean,” said the statement.
