An election for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which was to be held on April 28, has been rescheduled to April 30.
An announcement to this effect was made by the office of the municipal secretary which said that the last date of filing nominations for the two posts will now be April 26 instead of April 23 as notified earlier.
The names can be withdrawn any time before the election.
The polling will be held at an ordinary meeting of the corporation, it said.
Sources in the ruling BJP said three names - that of incumbent Kanwar Sain, Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya and BJP councillor Jagdish Mamgain - are doing rounds as the possible party candidate for the post of Mayor.
The BJP has a clear majority of 173 in the 272-member House and its candidate will be all set to be elected as the Mayor. According to rules, the post is reserved for women in the first year of the tenure of the corporation and for a scheduled caste candidate for the third year.
This time, the Mayor will have tenure of two years while it was for one year each for the last three years.
On the same day, elections will also be held to fill three vacancies caused in the MCD Standing Committee due to retirement of members.
The three members who have retired are deputy chairman of standing committee Rajni Abbi, former chairman Vijender Gupta and leader of opposition in MCD J K Sharma.
