Delhi Lokayukta Manmohan Sarin has written to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India demanding an official copy of the Performance Audit Report on XIX Commonwealth Games-2010 which had indicted Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to see if a case is made out on the basis of the report under the Delhi Lokayukta and Upalokayukta Act, 1995.
The move assumes significance since the Congress has rejected demands for the dismissal of Ms. Dikshit in the wake of her indictment by the CAG on the ground that her case could not be compared with that of former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa who resigned after being indicted by the State Lokayukta.
Ever since the contents of the report have come into the public domain, the Opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party, have been demanding action against the Delhi Chief Minister.
But the Congress has scuttled all these demands on the ground that a comparison cannot be drawn between Ms. Dikshit and Mr. Yeddyurappa.
Misrepresentation of facts
Incidentally, Justice Sarin had only last month indicted Ms. Dikshit for misrepresentation of facts and sent a note to the President of India seeking that she be censured for wrongly conveying to the general public in 2008 that 60,000 flats were available for distribution under the Rajiv Rattan Awas Yojana for the economically weaker sections when actually the number was far less.
The Lokayukta had held that the misrepresentation was made in view of the impending Delhi Assembly elections which were to be held later that year.
