Delhi ITO metro station to open from Monday

June 05, 2015 06:50 pm | Updated 07:46 pm IST - NEW DELHI

The much awaited ITO-Mandi House section will be opened for commercial operations for the public from Monday, 6 pm onwards. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) finalized the date on Friday after it received the mandatory safety clearance from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on Thursday evening.

“The ceremonial flag off will take place before-hand at 4 pm on the same day (Monday). Minister for Urban Development, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal will be present on the occasion,” said a DRMC spokesperson.

With an expected ridership of over 22,000, the ITO metro station was ready by January end this year, but its opening was stuck due to differences between the DMRC and the CMRS on single-line operation of train services on the stretch.

Apart from people commuting to their offices (police headquarters, UGC, Bal Bhawan etc. ), the ITO station will also benefit sports enthusiasts who often come to watch football and cricket matches at the Ambedkar and Feroz Shah Kotla stadiums located at a walking distance.

The ITO station has six escalators and lifts and six entry/exit points. Two subways will connect the station with the Deen Dayal Updhyay Marg as well as the Indraprastha Marg.
