The Delhi government has increased the retirement age of city government services doctors to 65 years following a nod by Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.

“Good news for Delhi Govt Doctors. Enhancement of retirement to 65 yrs done [sic],” Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain tweeted.

“The Health Department of the Delhi government had recently sent the proposal to the L-G seeking his approval,” a government spokesperson said.

Earlier, the retirement age of doctors at the Delhi government-run hospitals was 62 years. There are 36 such hospitals across the Capital.

A senior government official said this was good news for Delhi government doctors as well, as it will allow the city administration to retain experienced doctors for a longer period and help provide better services in government-run health facilities.

In May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced raising the age of retirement of government doctors to 65 years.
