In the third such raid within a fortnight, the special crack teams constituted by the Delhi Government conducted surprise checks in various government offices, apart from private business enterprises including gas agencies, flour mills, private schools and hospitals among others across the city.
In the day-long raid conducted by different teams, officials found several discrepancies. While some of the defaulters were prosecuted on the spot, records of others have been collected and investigations initiated for further action.
“The Department of Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs conducted raids at flour mill shops to check black marketing and diversion of foodgrains meant for the Public Distribution System. Raids were also conducted at gas agencies indulging in malpractices like supply of underweight LPG cylinders, delivery of cylinders without weighing them in front of the consumer and for using non-verified weighing scales,” an official said.
While three flour mills were sealed for having unaccounted stock of foodgrains, five were prosecuted for violating Packaged Commodities Rules, the official added. At least 10 gas agencies were booked for supply of underweight cylinders and other violations.
Raids were also conducted at fruits and vegetable mandis at Azadpur and Keshopur. Officials said large-scale encroachments were discovered at the mandis and challans were issued against traders found squatting on public land. Some of the chemist shops in South Delhi were found to be selling drugs mandated to be sold under the observation of a registered chemist. Officials said action has also been initiated against some of the famous private hospitals for violating norms, especially for violating admission rules governing economically weaker section patients.
The raids are being conducted on the direction of Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung. The team conducting raids comprises senior officers, IAS probationers, DANICS probationers, officers of Anti-corruption Branch and other senior officers from departments like Food & Supplies, Excise, Transport, Trade and Taxes, Health, Food Safety, Education and Police.
