Taking a round of Chhath Ghats along the Yamuna here on Monday, Delhi Revenue Minister Dr. A.K. Walia examined the sites for preparedness of the ceremonies to be held there on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of Chhath Puja celebrations, and asked agencies concerned to ensure adequate sanitation and security measures for the duration of the festival.
Accompanied by the Tirth Yatra Vikas Samiti chairman Gajbhan Mukut Sharma and senior officials of the Revenue Department, Dr. Walia visited Chhath Ghats at Thokar No.12, Wazirabad, Kudasia Ghat and ITO Ghat.
While preparations at Thokar No.12 and ITO Ghat were found to be satisfactory, conditions at Kudasia Ghat and Wazirbad were found inadequate. Dr. Walia requested the Municipal Commissioner to deploy additional personnel to complete sanitation work at these ghats.
He has also requested the Delhi Police to install CCTVs in order to provide adequate security at the Ghats and the Revenue Department has agreed to release payment for installation of CCTVs.
Dr. Walia further said 150 cusecs of water will be released into the Yamuna by the Delhi Jal Board from its stored capacity to ensure flow of clean water during puja celebrations.He added that the Revenue Department has made arrangement to deploy boats and divers at the ghats for rescue operations.
Mobile toilet vans will also be deployed at the ghats, in addition to arrangement of ambulances and medical facilities.
Adequate tent space has been made available for the convenience of devotees.
