: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has called a two-day Assembly session on June 9 and 10 to discuss the financial condition of the three Municipal Corporations and the state of cleanliness in the city.
At a Cabinet meeting held on Friday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal cleared the proposal for the session. “Del Assembly session next week to discuss how BJP's MCD has made whole of Del into a garbage bin due to its corruption n mismanagement. Del govt has done commendable job in preventing dengue so far. MCD needs to improve its functioning [sic]” he tweeted soon after the meeting.
Sources, however, said that the session would also encompass talks on election to the Deputy Speaker’s post. After AAP MLA Bandana Kumari resigned from her post on May 28, the party leadership has shortlisted Rakhi Birla as their choice to fill the post. There were complaints that Mrs. Kumari and her husband had worked against the AAP candidate in the municipal by-polls in the Shalimar Bagh constituency.
Sources added that the Full-Statehood Bill was likely to be taken up during the meet and might be brought in through a Private Member Bill. On May 18, Mr. Kejriwal had unveiled the draft of the State of Delhi Bill, 2016, proposing the complete handing over of administrative powers, including that of the police, to the Delhi government, while keeping the New Delhi Municipal Council area under the Centre’s control. The Bill is available in public domain, and suggestions from the public are being taken.
The financial condition of civic bodies, Capital’s state of cleanliness will be discussed
