Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev on Friday said that the September 27 Supreme Court order directing the Election Commission to provide the NOTA option on ballot papers and EVMs will be implemented in the upcoming elections.
Spelling out the election schedule, Mr. Dev said the gazetted notification will be issued on November 9, which is when the nominations begin. While November 16 will be the last date for filing of nominations, November 18 will be the day for scrutiny of nominations.
“November 20 will be the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Following which the city will go to the polls on December 4 and counting will take place on December 8,” he said. All electoral process will be completed before December 11.
Mr. Dev added that as the date of the elections have been notified, the model code of conduct has come into force in the Capital, and appropriate actions will be taken against any violations. “In every Assembly constituency there will be three flying squads comprising senior executive magistrates, upper subordinate police and a videography team. A video surveillance team will also cover every important political activity,” he said.
Further, the public too can bring model code of conduct violations to the Election Office by calling up the 24 x 7 line at 1800 111 400. “We also appeal to the public that when the model code of conduct is in force they should not walk around with large sums of money. There is a Rs.50,000 limit. Out institutions comprising police personnel, flying squads and other enforcement agencies will be carrying out intelligence based checks,” said Mr. Dev.
The health of the elector, going by the elector to population ratio (EP Ratio), is at 66.15 per cent. Citizens can check their names by SMS-based service (92117 28082) and can add or delete their names on the electoral roll till November 6.
