A 22-year-old woman Delhi Police constable was allegedly smothered to death by her fiancé at a guest house in South-West Delhi’s Sagarpur on Sunday night. The accused, who had fled after committing the crime, has been arrested.
According to the staff of Neel Gagan Guest House, where the crime took place, the victim Priyanka and her fiancé Mohit had checked in around 8-30 p.m. posing as a married couple. Mohit had presented his Haryana voter card as identity proof.
Incidentally, they were the only guests present at the guest house that night.
Around 11-30 p.m., Mohit left the guest house telling the staff that he was going to get dinner. He was then guided to a nearby eatery. This was the last time the staff members saw him. His exit was captured on the hotel CCTV camera.
On Monday morning, one of the staff members knocked at the door of the room to announce breakfast. Failing to get a response despite repeated attempts, they forced the door open and found the victim lying unconscious on the bed. The police were informed and they rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that Priyanka and Mohit were engaged a few months ago. However, Priyanka and her family had second thoughts because Mohit, who used to work in the Navy, lost his job a few days after the marriage was fixed.
The police gathered CCTV footage from the hotel and nearby places. Different teams were formed and the accused was finally nabbed in Gurgaon on Tuesday.
