Icy winds blowing from Himachal and Kashmir valley brought down the mercury in the city on Saturday to the season’s lowest of 8.6 degree Celsius, forcing people to take out woollens from their closets.

Saturday’s minimum, which is two degrees below normal level of temperature at this point of time, is the lowest for the month of November in the past three years.

In 2008, the lowest was nine degrees recorded on November 25 while in 2007, it was 9.6 degrees on 23rd. The record for 2006 was 7.3 on November 29.

The minimum plummeted to 8.6 degrees from yesterday’s 10.7 degrees. On Thursday, the lowest was recorded at 12.1 degree Celsius.

The Weatherman attribute the snowfall in higher reaches of Himachal and Kashmir valley for the dip in temperature. The maximum and minimum is likely to hover around 23 and nine degree Celsius respectively tomorrow.

During the last week, the temperature in the city has mostly been oscillating between 12 and 25 degrees Celsius.

The all time record for the maximum temperature in November was recorded on the third of the month in 2001 when the mercury rose to 36.1 degrees Celsius. The record minimum temperature was 3.9 degrees on November 28, 1938.
