Airline operations from the Capital are likely to be impacted temporarily next month, with airport operator Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) deciding to close one runway for three days starting November 7, according to sources.
The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, the busiest in the country, has three runways — 11/29, 10/28 and 9/27.
Airport and airline sources said runway 11/29 will be shut for three days for maintenance work. DIAL has already communicated the decision to airlines, which are now working on ways to minimise inconvenience to passengers, airline sources added.
Bigger crafts
There will be curtailment of operations and flights may be rescheduled or cancelled, sources said. One airline source said bigger aircrafts may be pressed into service to accommodate passengers. Queries to DIAL about the proposed shutting of the runway went unanswered. In 2016-17, the airport had handled 57.7 million passengers and over 8.57 lakh tonnes of cargo.
