After the success of several public and private players going online, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) launched its official Facebook and Twitter accounts on Monday, aiming to enhance and facilitate passenger convenience.

The Facebook page can be found at > https://www.facebook.com/DelhiAirport and the Twitter handle is @Delhi_Airport.

“We wanted to create an effective channel of communication with our customers, in addition to our already existing means like the feedback forms, information kiosks and email. Facebook and Twitter offer us and our esteemed customers an instant mode of communication and the ability to connect swiftly. Very soon we will be live on other social media platforms as well. Besides providing required information, we intend to send useful updates on airport related facilities, special offers and promotions that we would be undertaking from time to time,” said DIAL CEO I. Prabhakara Rao.

The move to mark their presence in the virtual world was a logical choice for the company. “India has close to 4 crore Facebook users and also a huge number of people on Twitter, with both these figures growing. Majority of these people are flyers or potential flyers, so it makes sense going live on social media,” added Mr. Rao.

According to an estimate by Facebook, Delhi and NCR combined have around 59 lakh users on Facebook and there are around 3.75 crore Facebook users in the country. Globally, the number has crossed 800 million. More than 50 per cent active users log on to Facebook every day.

Also, there are 100 million active Twitter users, and of the active users, 55 per cent tweet on the move through mobile devices. “DIAL has recently launched its website for mobile users at m.newdelhiairport.in,” said Mr. Rao.

On its first day on Facebook, DIAL had close to 100 followers.

The page and the Twitter handle posted details related to ongoing initiatives of the Delhi Airport for the forthcoming F1 Grand Prix.
