In a letter to Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, the Election Commission of India has conveyed that, acting on his complaint, it has initiated the process of deletion of duplicate voters from Delhi’s electoral rolls.
“The Election Commission of India has replied to the complaint about a large number of fake voters in Delhi, submitted by the Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal,” said the party in a statement.
The ECI informed the AAP leader that “with the assistance of the Commission, using 17 parameters and following stepwise progression, 27, 542 probable duplicates were identified on January 9”.
In its reply, the Chief Electoral Office has also informed the party that it has taken note of existence of multiple voters in many States neighbouring Delhi.
In his letter, Mr. Kejriwal had alleged nearly four lakh voters in Delhi have more than one voter ID card and sought the removal of these anomalies in the Capital’s electoral rolls.
He also told the Commission that on comparing the voter lists of Delhi with neighbouring Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the party had found several discrepancies.
“We found 14,71,025 voters in Delhi’s list, whose name, father’s/ husband’s name and age match with the names in Haryana’s list. In case of Uttar Pradesh, we found 12,53,779 voters in Delhi’s list,” he had said.
