Deer rescued from canal

April 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:34 am IST - Baripada (Odisha):

A deer which apparently had strayed away from Similipal sanctuary in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was on Thursday rescued from a canal of the Subarnarekha Irrigation project by forest personnel.

The deer was sighted inside the deep water of the canal near Padmapur Deuli under Bangiriposi forest range, Baripada DFO Sanjay Swain said.

Later it was taken out of the canal with the help of forest personnel, he said.

After a health check up, it was released inside the sanctuary area.

Probably due to scarcity of water the deer had strayed from the sanctuary area in search of water and was trapped inside the canal, Swain claimed. - PTI
