The Delhi Development Authority will consider in its meeting on Friday the proposal of change in land use to allow expansion of AIIMS Trauma Centre which is proposed to be self-sufficient in terms of physical and social infrastructure and be also connected to the main campus and also the Safdarjung hospital by an underpass.
The DDA is to consider changing use of 6.8 hectares of land from recreational (district park) to ‘public and semi-public’ (covering hospitals etc).
The proposed site for expansion of trauma centre is located on the 26-metre-wide Choudhary Jhandu Singh Marg. However, it is proposed to be integrated with the existing campus by an underpass.
A proposal in this regard was sent by the AIIMS Director to the Ministry of Urban Development last year. The Ministry, however, asked AIIMS to send a detailed proposal indicating the area of land required so that the same be forwarded to the DDA for necessary action.
As per the proposal, AIIMS has proposed to connect Safdarjung Hospital, the new land for Safdarjung hospital and AIIMS campus at Ansari Road so that the load does not come on Jhandu Singh Marg.
Initially the proposal for expansion of trauma centre was received for 19.92 acre of land. However, to maintain a part of district park and the DDA land, the proposed area was brought down to 16.80 acres (6.8 hectares).
The Technical Committee had in its meeting in June recommended the proposal for change of land use of 6.80 hectares of land for expansion of trauma centre on the condition that the entire complex will be self-sufficient in respect of physical and social infrastructure as per Master Plan 2021 regarding services plan/ green building.
It also laid down a condition that the scheme will be self-sufficient in terms of solid waste management including hospital/ bio-medical waste and will provide plots for solid waste related facilities. A comprehensive traffic and transportation scheme is also to be prepared for integration of existing and proposed development and to be submitted to UTTIPEC for approval.
The Committee had also recommended that minimum cutting of existing trees be undertaken for the expansion of trauma centre.
The Lieutenant-Governor had approved the proposal in principle on May 27, 2014.
