The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Friday allowed the Lotus Temple management to increase its ground coverage for constructing a building for training of youth. The management has requested for approval of layout plan for the building that was cleared at the DDA Board meeting.

The expansion is to be carried out on the land already in possession of the temple complex. “The issue had already been deliberated at various levels, including the technical committee that recommended relaxation in ground coverage for construction of the building. The plan was approved subject to the condition of furnishing an undertaking that the FAR in any case will not exceed beyond the sanctioned FAR,” an official said.

The Board also approved the proposal to allow more ground coverage and FAR in residential plots above 750 square metres. Officials said the issue had been notified under the Master Plan and about 109 objections/suggestions were received which were deliberated by the Board of Enquiry.

Based on the recommendations of the Board, officials said that it had been proposed by the authority that the maximum ground coverage in respect of plots from 750 sq. metres and above be increased from 40 per cent to 50 per cent and FAR be increased from 120 to 200.

“There is no change in the number of dwelling units proposed to be allowed after increase in FAR. The proposal was approved by the authority. However, it was directed that the issue be taken up to the court for allowing additional dwelling units in view of the increase in FAR,” an official said.

The authority also decided to fund the operationalisation of South Delhi Greenway or the Eco Mobility Corridor Project across the Barapullah drain. The 12.5-kilometre project is likely to cost Rs. 250 crore for phase-I – from Sarai Kale Khan to INA.

The Board also decided that a detailed project report (DPR) should be prepared for the entire stretch of Barapullah drain originating near Saib-ul-Ajab at Meharauli and ending at the confluence with the Yamuna near Barapullah Bridge.

“To prepare the DPR, a project implementation unit has been approved to be constituted under the chairmanship of Engineering Member, DDA, as the authority will be the implementation agency, with Chief Engineer (South), DDA, as the nodal officer,” an official said.
