DDA eases building norms

Building plans for plots below 200 square metres will not need the sanction of the local civic body anymore, with the Delhi Development Authority clearing a proposal to simplify the process. This move is expected to benefit lakhs of people in Delhi.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation Leader of the House Subhash Arya announced on Wednesday that the DDA had agreed to the civic bodies’ demands to ease building norms. The relaxations will be extended to the entire city and the DDA is expected to put out a notification to this end within a week, said Mr. Arya.

“There will be no need to take any permission. A registered architect can make the map and submit it or upload it on our site. There will be no verification by our engineers, but the architect will lose their license if the plan is not as per the building by-laws,” said Mr. Arya.

Mr. Arya added that stilt parking would not be mandatory for plots up to 200 square metres and in plots more than 200 square metres stilt parking will not be needed for single-storey constructions. The Masterplan-2021 will now allow 21 square metres as the minimum plot size, down from the current 32 square metres. An additional 3 feet projection will also be allowed on the condition that light and ventilation facilities are taken care of.
