The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Friday said it had rescued a newly wed woman who was forcefully confined by her husband and physically abused.
The woman had reached out to the Commission via e-mail. “She sent an e-mail to the DCW with details of the daily abuse she was subjected to and asked for help as she feared for her life,” the DCW said.
Months of abuse
The Commission sent a rescue team accompanied by the Noida Police to her home in Dadri, where she was allegedly confined by her husband. The DCW also helped the woman find shelter in a home in the Capital.
“She revealed that she got married in May and her husband started abusing her physically within three days of marriage. He forbid her from contacting her parents and leaving the house. After months of abuse, she finally gathered courage to contact the DCW,” the panel said.
The woman, a resident of Bulandshahr, told the Commission that she was keen on finding a job rather than returning to either her father or husband’s home.
