Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday met Jasleen Kaur, the girl who posted a picture of a man accusing him of harassing her.
Narrating the incident, 20-year-old Kaur submitted a copy of the FIR she filed against her harasser and said that now people are trying to divert the issue from harassment to politics. “She said that because she supported the Aam Admi Party, people are trying to divert the issue.”
The commission has registered her case and has asked for the details.
“She gave us in writing and the commission will go through the case,” said an official at the commission.
“We will provide her legal aid and depending on the case, may even become a party to it.”
On Monday, after Ms. Kaur’s post went viral, the police arrested her harasser, who allegedly mouthed vulgar language, while she was waiting at a traffic signal in Tilak Nagar.
However, the case had a twist when the harasser accused Ms. Kaur of making up the entire incident to gain political mileage. “But the commission will provide all the support she needs.”
DCW chairperson even tweeted on Monday in favour of Ms. Kaur “Congratulations Jasleen for taking a bold step n getting ur FIR registered. Man has been arrested. Delhi needs strong women like u.”
Meanwhile, the chairperson has written to Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani asking for details of the St Stephen’s molestation case.
