Armed with their CBSE Class XII results, applicants to Delhi University (DU) were a jittery lot on Monday as they packed the ‘open day’ session with queries about which colleges they could expect to get into.

Measuring up

Yash Bhatia, an aspirant from ITL Public School in Dwarka who scored 98.5%, is eyeing both merit and entrance-based courses.

“I wanted to go for B.Com (Hons.) or Economics (Hons.) but if I get through an entrance-based course like BMS, it’ll be a tough choice to make,” said Ms. Bhatia.

Applicants who did not obtain very high scores wanted to know about the sports and ECA quota. Many were keen to know if zonal sports certificates could be used to apply for sports quota and what certification is required to apply through music for ECA quota.

The alumni and student volunteers have been getting a lot of queries from students with compartment in one or more subjects. Deputy Dean of the University Gurpreet Tuteja said that the applicants can apply for merit-based courses marking the result status as ‘awaited’.

“We do not allow provisional admission. The candidate should have cleared the compartment exam by the time he/she is admitted,” said Mr. Tuteja.

Entrance-based courses

“The portal to apply for entrance-based courses is not open yet. Whether the candidate with compartment in a subject can apply for entrance-based courses can only be told once the policy is out,” the deputy dean added. The application forms for the entrance-based courses will be available from May 31.
