The Delhi Police on Thursday questioned Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Private Secretary Bibhav Kumar as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in February.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Harendra Singh, who is heading the investigation, said Mr. Kumar was questioned for over three hours at the Civil Lines police station on Thursday afternoon.
“During questioning, we have established that he played a key role in organising the meeting on the night of February 19,” he said.
Mr. Singh also said that the questioning was conducted to ascertain “who all were called for the meeting, who called them, and at whose behest the meeting was called”. The Additional DCP said that Mr. Kumar told the police that the meeting was called on behalf of the Chief Minister.
Refusing to divulge further details of the questioning, Mr. Singh said Mr. Kumar told them he was on the premises coordinating things but not inside the venue where the meeting was conducted — the Chief Minister’s residence.
The probe so far
The police had earlier questioned 11 MLAs who were present at the meeting, including Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal who were arrested and later released on bail.
The police had also gone to Mr. Kejriwal’s house on February 23 to obtain CCTV footage of the night for further investigation. At the time, Mr. Singh said that the video recording was found to be running 40 minutes and 42 seconds behind.
“The Forensic Science Laboratory report on the footage is awaited,” the Additional DCP said on Thursday.
Chief Secretary Prakash had told the police that he was summoned to Mr. Kejriwal’s residence around midnight where he was assaulted in the presence of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and the 11 MLAs.
Asked if more people would be interrogated in the matter, Mr. Singh said, “It hasn’t been decided yet.”
