Soon, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force, the largest paramilitary force in the world, will undergo training in gender sensitisation, women exploitation and abuse in conflict areas.
Five-day programmeTo impart training in these issues, a five-day special programme was launched by the CRPF on Monday. Under this, 50 personnel will be trained. They will in turn train others, said CRPF PRO B.C. Khanduri.
“In the first phase, the course aims to prepare a group of trainers who would train the personnel who will be going on various UN missions,” he said.
The programme will go on till September 19 and includes a session at the specialised school of the force’s Rapid Action Force at Meerut (U.P.)
Two CRPF units in LiberiaMr. Khanduri added that at present two police units are deployed in Liberia under the aegis of the UN, where they have to provide support to the civil administration in law and order.
Director General of CRPF Dilip Trivedi lauded the work of his contingents deployed under the UN Mission in Liberia. “The female contingent there has worked as an impetus for ‘gender streamlining’.
He also apprised the gathering that they are now engaged in community participation apart from their normal duties,” said Mr. Trivedi.
Dr. Rebecca Reichman Tavares, the representative of United Nation Women, India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka, was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Tavares quoted the President of Liberia, Sir John Sirleaf, as saying: “When women are safe, nations are safe”.
