A CRPF head constable allegedly shot himself using a country-made pistol at the forces’ headquarters at the CGO Complex here on Wednesday morning.
No suicide note was found, leaving the police clueless about the reason behind the extreme step.
Apart from the suicide, the police are also looking into how head constable Hemant Kumar managed to dodge security at the entry point of the Central Reserve Police Force headquarters and the CGO Complex gates.
Security lapse
Initial probe has revealed that while the head constable’s bag was scanned, he was not frisked.
A senior police officer said that while it was a major lapse, the most likely explanation so far appears to be that the security personnel at the headquarter gates did not frisk Kumar since they knew him. Kumar had joined the Central Reserve Police Force in 2012 and was currently posted in the public relations cell at the headquarters. He lived with his parents in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar.
It was around 10 a.m. on Wednesday that a gunshot was heard from one of the bathrooms at the CRPF headquarters. Staff there and members of the quick reaction team immediately rushed to the spot where Kumar, who had shot himself in the head, was found in the bathroom. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
No family issues
Police quoted Kumar’s parents as claiming that the deceased had not mentioned anything to them. “His family members are employed and money does not seem to be an issue. Neither his work, nor his shift timings appear to be too stressful,” said the officer.
