Some unidentified assailants allegedly shot at a CRPF inspector when he was taking a morning walk in R.K. Puram on Friday.
According to the police, the incident took place around 4-30 a.m. when 34-year-old Vikas, who is on deputation with the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) in Delhi, was going to the park located near the police colony. He was posted as Staff Officer to the Director General of BPR&D.
It was learnt that the assailants came on a bike and fired two shots. The fled, leaving behind a profusely bleeding Vikas. Some passersby heard the bullet shots and rushed him to the nearby All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre, where his condition is said to be stable.
In a statement to the police, Vikas has accused his in-laws of hatching a conspiracy to kill him. His relationship with his wife was strained and they were living separately for the past several months.
A senior police officer said that following preliminary investigations, a case has been registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) read with 34 (common intention) of the IPC and Arms Act with the R.K. Puram police station against unidentified perpetrators. Further investigations are under way.
