An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was allegedly shot dead by a colleague following a heated argument at their camp in Ecotech-3 village in Greater Noida on Wednesday morning. The police have arrested the accused CRPF constable.

Heated argument

The deceased has been identified as ASI Manoj Kumar Rai from 177 Battalion of the CRPF. He was leading the charge while practising at the base camp when he was allegedly shot by constable Sanjeev Kumar from the same battalion.

“The incident took place around 10 a.m. when Rai had an heated argument with Kumar. Later, Kumar shot Rai from his rifle,” said a senior police officer. Rai was rushed to a nearby hospital while Kumar was arrested.

“Rai had a deep bullet wound near the chest and was rushed to the hospital by his colleagues. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment in the evening,” the officer added.

Kumar has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, said the police. “We are unaware of the actual reason why the constable fired at Rai. We have recovered the rifle used to commit the crime from the spot,” said the officer.
