A notorious criminal allegedly involved in over 200 cases of attempt to murder, theft, robbery and cheating was arrested at Palam Vihar in neighbouring Gurgaon on Thursday following a brief encounter.
Vikram Kadiyan alias Vicky was active in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rohtak, Karnal and Bahadurgarh.
The 28-year-old resident of Najafgarh was actively involved in criminal activities in Gurgaon for the past six months and several police teams were constituted by the Gurgaon police to nab him.
Station House Officer (Palam Vihar) Inspector Naresh Kumar received a tip-off on Thursday morning that Vikram had left from Delhi for Palam Vihar to commit crime.
A police team laid a trap in Palam Vihar and signalled a car coming from the direction of Bijwasan to stop. The car occupant, later identified as Vikram, hit the barricade and opened fire at the police team in a bid to escape. The police team fired in retaliation and overpowered him. Two .32 bore revolvers and many live cartridges were seized from him and he was arrested.
During interrogation, Vikram purportedly confessed to his involvement in over 200 criminal cases in Gurgaon and its neighbouring areas. According to the police, Vikram got involved in criminal activities in 2003 and operates alone.
Vikram is involved in at least 15 cases of theft and robbery in upscale DLF Phase-II, Sector 29 and Palam Vihar in Gurgaon. He would commit thefts mostly during the daytime when women were alone at home.
He would not stay at the spot for more than a few minutes to avoid arrest, the police said.
