A team of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch on Monday visited the cracker factory in Bawana industrial area, where a massive fire killed 17 people on Saturday evening, to start fresh probe.
“The case has been transferred from the Rohini district police to the Crime Branch. The team visited the factory to survey and start fresh investigation,” said a senior police officer.
The police on Monday identified one more victim of the fire tragedy, taking the number of identified deceased to 15.
Rajneesh Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini), said the deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Avinash Yadav.
Out of the 17 deceased, 15 have been identified while one male and one female remain unidentified.
Proceedings deferred
The factory owner, Manoj Jain, who was arrested on Sunday, could not be produced before the court on Monday on account of the Republic Day full dress rehearsal arrangement.
The Investigating Officer submitted before the court that the accused was to be produced on Monday from the judicial custody but because of Republic Day arrangements, sufficient force was not available.
The officer further informed the court that it was highly likely that the accused would not be produced on Tuesday as well.
Based on the police’s plea, the court ordered that the accused be produce before it on January 24.
Brand names on cartons
The FIR registered at Shahbad Dairy police station on the basis of a statement of a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector states that when the police entered the factory premises for the post-accident inspection, they saw cartons printed with brand names of several fireworks companies.
These were all popular brands and the names were visible even after the packets were burnt, said the police.
No emergency exit
The complaint also mentioned that combustible material in huge quantity was found in the factory during police inspection. The factory had only entry-exit door and no emergency exit. The premise did not have any fire-fighting set-up, stated the FIR.
