Court ups compensation for farmers

May 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:55 am IST - New Delhi:

A court here has enhanced compensation for farmers of Hiran Kudna village in West Delhi for 343 bighas of land acquired from them for a defence project in 1980 at the rate of Rs.1,000 and Rs.2,000 per bigha.

Allowing the plea by 12 farmers of the village against the fixation of the market value of their land by the Land Acquisition Collector, Additional District Judge Sanjay Kumar said: “The petitioners are…entitled to get the enhanced compensation for Rs.2000 for A-Block and Rs.1000 for B-Block to Rs.12,900 per bigha for both categories of land.”

Challenging the award, the petitioners said that the collector had erred in fixing the market value of the land.
