No leniency to drunk driver: Court

April 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - New Delhi:

A Sessions court here has refused to set aside five days’ imprisonment of a man who was found guilty of driving his two-wheeler in a drunken state.

The breath analysis report of accused Rajpura said the alcohol content in his blood sample was 14 times the permissible limit (30 ml in a 100 ml of blood sample).

The accused had pleaded guilty before a Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) in the trial of the case. The MM had sentenced him to five days’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.2,000 on him.

While the accused deposited the fine amount, he pleaded the Court for quashing of the prison term, promising not to touch liquor in future. His counsel also argued that he had pleaded guilty to his offence without understanding its consequences. He might be given an opportunity to live as a responsible man, his counsel submitted, adding that the sentence of imprisonment might be reduced to making him sit in the court till rising for the day.
