Suspected to have been wearing earphones at the time

A couple was crushed by a train in outer Delhi’s Mundka on Saturday allegedly while crossing a railway line.

The police said that the couple, both in their mid-twenties, were walking on the tracks when they noticed a goods train approaching them.

The couple quickly crossed over to the adjacent tracks but while doing so, they failed to notice another super-fast express heading out from Delhi.

They tried to leap towards the bushes nearby, but in vain. They were killed instantly. The police said that they have ruled out the possibility of suicide.

No suicide note

“No suicide note was recovered from them. Their mobile phones are now being examined for more information,” said Parvez Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways).

Mr. Ahmed said the couple did not have earphones plugged in when their bodies were found, but added that the possibility cannot be ruled out.

The police said the incident came to light around 8 p.m., when a passerby noticed the mangled remains of the duo lying on the track.

He immediately alerted the locals as well as the police, who reached the spot and informed the parents.

The victims have been identified as Aman (20) and Alisha (20).

Aman lived with his family in Karala whereas Alisha lived in Trinagar.

The police said that the bodies were taken to a hospital nearby and a postmortem was conducted.

The bodies were handed over to the family members thereafter. A case has been registered at the Sarai Rohila railway police station.
