The East Delhi Municipal Corporation on Saturday began the process of distribution of simplified trade licences to traders in Delhi. A camp was organised by the civic body to distribute the licences.

The distribution of simplified trade licences is a major agenda of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the three corporations. Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta was the chief guest at the launch of the exercise.

Speaking about the initiative, he said it would help nearly 10 lakh traders across Delhi. Mr. Gupta declared that the party “wants to start good governance”.

He said the move would help the people get access to services provided by the corporations at their door step.

“Delhi is a big commercial centre. The role of the three Municipal Corporations is very important and it was long a demand of the traders that they be provided trade licences in simplified form so that corruption and red-tapism be eradicated,” he said.

While the East DMC has begun the process of distribution of simplified trade licenses, the South and North DMCs are expected to follow suit soon. Mr. Gupta said the exercise would bring about transparency in the licensing system and free it from corruption.

“This will not only benefit the traders but also help in increasing the revenue of the Corporations,” he claimed.
