Cops issue notice to nine journalists

March 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 02:36 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Police on Monday issued notices to at least nine journalists, who were either victims or witnesses to the February 15 violence at the Patiala House Courts, to join investigation.

Some of these journalists were assaulted inside the court premises and were present at the complex two days later when JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was to be produced.

It was a group of lawyers which attacked journalists, students and teachers of JNU on both days.

The notices were served under Section 160 of the CrPC asking the journalists to join investigation along with evidence on specific dates, said one journalist who received the notice.

He was among those who had filed a joint complaint at the Tilak Marg Police station after the February 15 incident. However, the FIRs against lawyer Vikram Singh Chauhan and others were filed by the police after taking suo motu cognisance, and not on the basis of the victims’ statements.
