Cops booked for staged raid

April 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Three Delhi Police constables have been arrested for barging into a house in Dwarka and demanding Rs. 20 lakh from the owner.

According to the police, the constables were identified as Sandeep (26), Dinesh Kumar (25) and Prashant (30). Sandeep is posted in the security unit while Dinesh and Prashant are posted at Special Cell and Delhi Armed Police’s 4th Battalion respectively.

All three have been arrested under charges of extortion and house trespass.

A senior police officer said that the incident happened in Cosmos Apartment on Saturday morning. “The complainant said that three young boys had forcefully entered his flat flashing their Delhi Police identity cards and started a search. They claimed that they had information about some wrongful activities being undertaken in his flat and demanded Rs. 20 lakh and threatened by waving a pistol,” said the officer.

Even though the police have not given the flat owner a clean chit, they said prima facie it did not appear that he was involved in any wrongdoing. The victim managed to convey the information about the staged raid to his friend who made a call to the police control room.

On the basis of the call, police along with the PCR reached the spot and found that all three persons who had intruded were constables of Delhi Police and their identity cards turned out to be genuine. A case was registered at Dwarka South Police Station under IPC sections 384 (Punishment for extortion), 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention).
