: Two accidents involving metal-coated kite thread manjha were reported from Delhi-NCR on Monday.

In the first incident, a kite string cut Sub-Inspector Manoj’s neck when he was on patrolling duty in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar around 5 p.m. He managed to free himself, and with the help of a colleague rushed to a nearby hospital

In another incident, a manjha cut five-year-old Aryan’s neck in Ghaziabad. At the time, he was riding with his father on a motorcycle. The victim, a resident of Vijaynagar Bypass, is said to be stable.

No check

Locals allege that despite a ban, nylon manjha continues to be in use in the district.

The incidents happened on the same day when a three-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy were killed in kite string-related incidents in Rani Bagh and Tilak Nagar, respectively. In the Tilak Nagar incident, the family was returning home after celebrating Independence Day in a mall located in Vishwas Nagar. Rajan, the father of deceased Harry, was driving the Swift Dzire car which was modified to get a sun roof on top.

Biker dead

On Monday, a 22-year-old biker had died after a kite string got entangled around his neck.

The incident happened on Keshavpur Elevated Road around 5:30 p.m. when Zafar Khan, a resident of Nihal Vihar, was returning home.

“Zafar was returning from his sister’s house in Dwarka when a manjha from a kite got stuck around his neck, causing a cut. As he tried to free himself, the manjha kept coiling around his neck due to which he fell off from his bike,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (South-Western Range) Deependra Pathak.

Zafar was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital by officials of the Delhi Fire Service. At the hospital, Zafar succumbed to head injuries.

The police added that he was not wearing any helmet due to which the impact of the fall was stronger.

A case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Mianwali Nagar police station. Zafar was a student of Class XII in a government school.
