Cooking up a storm, with a little help

November 30, 2014 09:14 am | Updated 09:14 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Sauté onions, add ginger, garlic paste, a tablespoon each of five to six ingredients, fry for a bit, add meat or vegetables, garnish and viola! Dinner is served in 20 minutes! Chefs on television cooking shows or YouTube make cooking look so easy, h owever, the reality is very different for a cooking novice.

While not exactly rocket science, but shopping, assembling and chopping can take the romance out of cooking the simplest of meals.

Friends Raghav Kohli and Anshul Narang realised one day that although they loved cooking when they had time in college, they never got down to cooking after they started working. Realising that other people had similar problems, they co-founded a website called cookfresh.in.

Customers can choose from a number of dishes the website lists. So, what’s new about this company, you might ask?

The difference is that they not only deliver the dish to your home, but also deliver all the ingredients that go into making the dish along with a recipe card.

“All the ingredients are sourced fresh, washed, cut according to the recipe, packed and delivered to the customer’s doorstep,” says Raghav. He adds that no dish on offer takes more than 40 minutes to cook and that they are all relatively easy enough to cook a meal for two.

A freelance chef has created the menu and is planning to increase the number of dishes to 50. A special weekend menu is also on offer along with a number of schemes to attract return customers.

Raghav says although the service is popular among bachelors, a lot of customers are stay-at-home mothers in their 30s who want to cook something different for their family or need to cook in bulk for a party.

“It allows people to show off their cooking without the hassle of cutting and chopping. It trumps getting food delivered from restaurants,” he says.

For weight-watchers and calorie-counters, every dish tells you how many calories you are consuming.

The complete list of places where they deliver in the Capital and Gurgaon is also listed on their website.
