A 25-year-old cook was arrested for allegedly killing a fellow cook on August 24 at an eatery in Uttam Nagar where the two were former colleagues. The accused allegedly told the police he was jealous of the victim and decided to eliminate him.

The accused, Mustakeem, a native of Uttar Pradesh, allegedly shot Anaytullah dead while he was at work at the eatery. He then fled the spot but was arrested on Friday with the help of human and technical surveillance.

“A lot of his friends and family members were questioned and his suspected hideouts were raided. He was finally arrested from an accommodation in Faridabad where he was hiding,” said a senior police officer.

During questioning, Mustakeem allegedly told the police that the owner of the eatery, his brother-in-law, started paying more attention to Mr. Anaytullah because of his talent which made the accused jealous. “He also claimed that he was diagnosed with throat cancer, for which he blamed Anaytullah because the latter allegedly got him addicted to cigarettes and ganja,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Shibesh Singh.

Argument at eatery

“He told us that he came back from his native village, Amroha, on August 23 with a country-made pistol,” said Mr. Singh.

The next day, he went to the eatery and asked his brother-in-law to sack Anaytullah and reinstate him to which the latter responded saying that it would take a few days. “After a few arguments, Mustakeen shot at Anaytullah. He was rushed to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital where he was declared dead,” said the DCP.
