The conspirators behind the murder of businessman Deepak Bhardwaj, who was gunned down at his Rajokri farmhouse three days ago, have been identified, Delhi Police sources said on Friday.
The police are now waiting for some more evidence to confront the accused while questioning them about the exact motive behind the conspiracy, said a source. So far all clues have pointed towards a monetary dispute.
Although senior officers remained tight-lipped about who the conspirators were, the victim’s family members, with whom he had an uneasy relationship, and a few others, including his two women friends, are also reported to be under the scanner.
While some people are stated to be under detention, no arrests have been made in the case thus far.
However, sources claimed that the police are yet to catch the three men who had gone to the “Nitesh Kunj’’ farmhouse in a Skoda car and had allegedly shot Mr. Bhardwaj. The faces of two of these suspects were even captured by the CCTV cameras installed at the farmhouse.
Apart from the CCTV footage and the statements made by the staff at the farmhouse, the police is also learnt to have gathered important clues about the suspects from the man who purportedly sold to them the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. “Their identities have been established and we have questioned some of their relatives besides the man who sold the car to them,” said the source, adding that the car, too, has been seized. The call records of the three men are also being verified.
On Tuesday, three armed assailants had entered Mr. Bhardwaj’s farmhouse in a metallic grey Skoda Laura car on the pretext of booking the banquet hall for a marriage ceremony. Two of them later pumped three bullets into Mr. Bhardwaj before fleeing in their vehicle. The victim later succumbed to his injuries at the Army Research and Referral Hospital.
Easy entry and the assailants’ familiarity with the geography have led the police to suspect the involvement of an insider and some of the employees, particularly one of the 40-odd security guards, in the crime, said the source.
