The Odisha conjoined twins, Jaga and Kalia, who were separated after a 16-hour operation on October 26 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are now stable, said a statement released by the institute on Wednesday.
“Jaga has been taken off the ventilator, but Kalia is still in ICU. Both the children are stable. Jaga has recognised his mother and if his health remains stable, he will be shifted out of the ICU in the next 48 hours. Kalia is under observation. He will remain in the ICU for eight to 10 days more. The vital parameters of both the children are normal,” read the statement.
Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena visited the hospital on Wednesday and met the parents of the children as well as the team of doctors who conducted the surgery.
The craniopagus (joined at the head) twins from Kandhamal district were admitted to AIIMS on July 13.
Doctors said that twins were suffering from a condition that afflicted one in 30 lakh children, of which half die either at birth or within 24 hours.
The first phase of the surgery was performed on August 28.
