Members of the Youth and Mahila Congress staged a demonstration outside the Ashoka Road residence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday to protest his controversial remark on the Nirbhaya rape incident.

The protesters burned an effigy of Mr. Jaitley and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi drop him from the Cabinet.

The protest march of the Congress workers was stopped by the police near the Ashoka Road roundabout in a bid to prevent them from reaching Mr. Jaitley's residence.

“His comment is an insult to women. He should tender a public apology for his comment. Mr. Modi makes tall claims about maintaining the dignity of women. If he is serious on the issue, he should immediately drop Mr. Jaitley from his Cabinet,” said Harshvardhan Shyam, general secretary of Indian Youth Congress.
