Senior Congress leaders from South India on Tuesday hit out against BJP MP Tarun Vijay, who recently made controversial remarks about South Indians.
Speaking on a television channel, Mr. Vijay had said that Indians could not be racist as they lived with “black” South Indians.
A resolution condemning Mr. Vijay’s statements was passed at a meeting of the Delhi Pradesh South Indian Congress, which was attended by former Union Ministers A. K Antony and Oscar Fernandes, Puducherry CM V. Narayana Swamy, Congress in-charge of Delhi P .C. Chacko and Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken.
The BJP MP’s statement was “extremely embarrassing, as part and parcel of the racial supremacy and divisive agenda which the BJP advocates”, the resolution said.
Mr. Maken said that Mr. Vijay’s comment was a “calculated attempt” to create divisions.
